Lighthearted Movies to Lift Your Mood
Sometimes we all need something to make us laugh and make us happy for just a few hours. If you need something like that today, then I've compiled a list of some of my favorite happy, funny, or generally lighthearted movies for you to enjoy.
The Emperor's New Groove
This animated, often forgotten Disney movie is absolutely hilarious from beginning to end. It's got forth wall breaking, excellent voice actors, and did I mention llamas? It also has a good moral and few catchy musicals numbers. I love every character in it, from Kuzco, the stuck up prince, to Yzma, the way too relatable villain.
Winnie the Pooh (2011)
Honestly, any Winnie the Pooh movie would be fine. They all make me happy and bring me back to when I was a kid. But I chose this one because it has a unique blend of sweetness and humor. It also has a few cute musical numbers and is well animated.
Storks
Sure, it's a bit cheesy and over-done in places, but this movie is actually pretty funny and cute. I mean, there's a pink haired baby in it. With ninja skills. She's adorable. It's a movie about family and belonging and there is a wolf pack that turns into a mini van, so you should definitely watch it. (I swear that makes more sense in context.)
The Lego Movie
You may have avoided this one due to the excessive singing of "Everything is Awesome!", but it's actually a great movie. It has super cool animation (everything is made out of Lego bricks), a superb voice cast, and lots of good slap-stick comedy. It's a great one to give you a little mood lift.
Despicable Me
Who doesn't love someone who loves being bad? Gru may not be the best villain, but he enjoys what he does. And then you have the addition of three little girls, and things get crazy. It's got a lot of heart, humor, and twinkie shaped minions.
Night at the Museum
Have you ever wanted to see Robin Williams play Theodore Roosevelt? Yes, you have. And he rocks as him. The basic gist is that the museum comes alive at night, it stars a whole bunch of comedians, and the whole thing is a bucket of fun. And if you like it, then there are two more!
Mamma Mia!
If you're a fan of musicals and/or ABBA, then you'll like this one. It's kind silly and there's a lot of singing, but it's super fun and good way to kill two hours. If you have all the songs memorized, then you can sing along. Plus, it stars Meryl Streep, so you know she'll knock your socks off.
Galaxy Quest
The perfect movie for Star Trek fans. It's campy, stupid, and hilarious. It's about actors from an old TV show called Galaxy Quest (which is strangely reminiscent of Star Trek) who get kidnapped by real aliens who think they're really their characters. It stars Tim Allen and Alan Rickman, so just go watch it.
What a Girl Wants
This movie is great if you're in a teen comedy sort of mood. It's a funny and surprisingly heartfelt adventure through London as a girl tries to reconnect with her estranged father. Colin Firth is in it and he really shines, showing his skills as a comedic actor as well a serious one.
Aladdin
We'll end with one of my favorite classic Disney movies, Aladdin. I could like always watch this movie. You can't beat it. There's adventure, love, magic lamps, and sword fights with giant snakes! It's one of my favorite Disney princess movies that's pretty much perfect on every level.
What are some of your favorite upbeat movies? Do you like any of these? Tell me in the comments.
