Writing a Blog Post Readers Will Love
We all want to write blog posts that wow our readers and make them want to come back for more. (Or at least put something adequate out there for those days where we don't have the brain power to come up with something stellar.) But how do you make something like that? That's what we're going to be looking at today.
Of course, this isn't a tried and true formula. What works for one person might not work for another. These are things that I have noticed and hope that they'll give you some help for your blog posts.
1. Lists
Lists are always popular. This post is even a list. They're great because it breaks down the information into smaller chunks that people can scan and find what they need. Or get the gist without really reading the whole thing. (But I know you're not doing that, right?)
2. GIFs and pictures
People like images. People like moving images even more. They also help break up the text, plus a picture is worth a thousand words, so what's a gif worth? Plus, a good gif can make people laugh and illustrate your point well.
3. Use your own voice
It's okay to play around with different writing styles, but I find it's easiest to use the voice that's most natural to you. It can be silly, serious, snarky, or informative. I find people respond best when you let your own voice shine through.
4. Write about your passions
A post that you have a lot of feeling about or thoughts on will always do better than one that you're less passionate about. That doesn't mean that you have to pick something you're super passionate about every time, but when you do, people can tell. Plus, you'll probably write your best work then.
5. Make it relatable
It's always nice to know that other people feel or think the same thing as you. When you pick a relatable post topic, you'll probably get a lot of response from people saying they feel the same. I always love seeing that in comments.
6. Or make it helpful
Another popular post type is ones where you help others, by explaining how to do something, or giving insight. You'll also come up in more search results with an informative post. It can also be interesting to share your knowledge, because you might not be the best as something, but to other people you seem pretty good.
7. Pick a popular topic
Yeah, everyone's written about some things. But that doesn't mean that you can't too. Most people don't mind hearing another person's thought on a popular topic. But try to avoid things that have beaten a bit too much.
8. Make people think
Discussion posts, or posts were you talk about more controversial things can be interesting. It's good to challenge the way other's think sometimes and get them thinking about something new. You don't have to be inflammatory, just share what you think and allow others to as well.
Do you have any tips for writing a great blog post? What's something that you love to see in posts? Tell me in the comments.
