May 2019 Recap

May 2019 Recap

May is over, which means June is about to start, which means the halfway point of the year has arrived. Let's all freak out together, shall we? But instead of focusing on that, let's talk about my May.

A quick announcement before we start- I will be taking a two week blog hiatus starting next week. I'll be back on June 17 with a new post on I-have-no-idea-yet. So don't be alarmed if you don't see any new posts for a bit.

What I Did

• Worked. I've been super buys with work this month, which I frankly haven't enjoyed, especially this week. Working retail can be exhausting. But as always, I shall keep on and try not to complain (a lot).

• Went to a Chinese cooking demonstration with my dad. It was pretty interesting and enjoyable. At the same time we saw Linda Carter's Wonder Woman outfit, Chris Evans Captain America shield, and some Stradivarius violins.

 • Tried my hand at homemade truffles for mother's day. They came out pretty good if I do say so myself.

• Worked on a new music video, although like normal, we're going to be waaay past our deadline posting it. Ah, c'est la vie.

• Listened to a lot of new music. Some P!nk, the School of Rock, and the new Aladdin soundtrack. I'm in love with "Speechless". I want to see that movie so bad.

Read

I finally got more reading done! It helps that I finished my Emma read-along.

Dumplin'- Julie Murphy (3 stars)
Emma- Jane Austen (4 stars)
All for One- Melissa de la Cruz (4 stars)
When Women Ruled the World- Kara Cooney (3 stars)
Compass South- Hope Larson (4 stars)
Cici's Journal- Joris Chamblain (4 stars)
A Very Large Expanse of Sea- Tahereh Mafi (4 stars)
Mr. Lemoncello's All Star Breakout Game- Chris Grabenstein (4 stars)
Predator's Gold- Philip Reeve (3 stars)
Sorcerer of the North- John Flanagan (5 stars)

Watched

Mortal Engines (a pretty good adaptation of the book)

Aquaman (better than I thought it was going to be)

A.X.L. (predictable, but not as cheesy as I thought it was going to be)

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (fun and what a plot twist)

Jack the Giant Slayer (an old favorite)

Emma (another good adaptation with most of the lines and plot from the book)

On the Blog

• On of the more fun things I did this month was interview my sister in celebration of her first book release. My most popular post this month was actually my post about movies that were nothing like the book.

• In other news, I reached 130 followers on Instagram and started a Twitter account. If you're interested in giving me a follow, you can find the link in the sidebar. I'm still trying to get the hang of the new platform.

• And I don't know if you noticed, but I updated my pages. I've cleaned them up and updated them with more modern posts.

Writing

Honestly, I haven't done a lot of writing this month, but that's okay. I sent my novel to beta readers and just started the next round of editing on New Magic this week. So far I've had two people send back their notes on my superhero novel.

Art

As for art this month, I've just been playing around a lot, sketching and such. I did however draw this Into the Spider-verse fan art and I think it came out really great. I also drew this sketch of Chewbacca in honor of Peter Mayhew's death, which I was very sad to hear about. Right before May the Fourth, too.

June Thoughts

• I plan to get through the whole series character arc for Celia and start work on editing it in this novel. It's going to be tricky, but I think it will help take it to the next level.

• I hope to start re-reading the Inheritance Cycle. I've been meaning to do this since forever, so I thought if I said it here, I would have to do it, right?

• I really want to conquer my fear and learn to do a handstand, so I think that might be one of my June goals. I'm scared of falling, but I want to push my limits and this is a more easy way to do that.

• And honestly, I just want to feel less stressed in June. I haven't been super stressed in May, but it's been accumulating as the month went on, so I need to take a step back.

How was your May? Did you do anything fun? Tell me in the comments.
