January 2021 Recap

January 2021 Recap

January is almost over. It's getting quite cold here in Maryland and we might have some proper snow next week. Winter is certainly here. Shall we see what I did? (Probably not much.)

My Life

• I now feel more settled in my new job, but I don't think I'm going to stay long. It just doesn't feel like the place for me. I'm making the best of it for now and using it as an opportunity to put in action Colossians 3:23.

• Did lots of new year planning. It's one of my favorite times of the year. Figuring out what sort of plans I want to make and how I want to accomplish them.

• My original bullet journal was coming from Japan, so it only arrived today and I had to panic buy one from Amazon at the end of December. So all my planning and new year prep took much longer than I anticipated.

• I replaced my car tires, then one of them went flat, so my sister and I had an impromptu shopping trip. But I got two new books and three new dresses, so I'd say it was a win.

• Went to B.I.G and got six more books. Then went a psalm sing with my church that was quite lovely.

Read

Movies

Edward Scissorhands (absolutely precious)

The Secret Garden- 2020 (skip. Not true to the book at all)

Casino Royale (one of my favorite James Bond to date)

Emma (amazing! I loved all of it!)

The Intern (sweet movie about the generation gap)

Writing

I only got about two weeks of editing done this month, but that's okay. I'm trying to get back into the swing of it. It's going pretty well, although I'm adding a plot line, which is always fun (that's a lie).

On the Blog

• My most popular post was actually my Tim Burton one. Glad to know I'm not the only Tim Burton fangirl out there.

• Also, as a reminder, I put a survey in my yearly recap back at the beginning of the month. If you haven't taken it yet, I'd love if you would. Here's the link- https://s.surveyplanet.com/kyTFU-sCH

Art

I did get to do some more art in January, which I'm happy about. First up, I customized another sketchbook cover (secretly because it ripped when I took the sticker off).

I also did three inspired outfit drawings this month. (I was feeling pretty inspired, one might say *wink wink*.) The first one is a sort of modernized Blue Fairy dress.

Then we have a White Rabbit school uniform, which I think looks adorable.

And lastly a teenage Tip with a more fashionable version of the outfits she wears in the movie.

February Thoughts

• I will hopefully finish the edits on Horsemen and Hollows and then maybe begin returning to my Wonderland trilogy.

• Hopefully look for a new job someplace I'd like better. I have a few ideas in mind.

• Continue working on finding a schedule that works for me. I've felt very disorganized so far this year.

• Get some new glasses. Mine are like five years old and getting very scratched. I'll be sure to show off a picture when I get them.

How did your January go? Did you do anything fun? Tell me in the comments!

  1. This was a wonderful post! I agree that Secret garden was not at all like the book. I loved your paintings especially the sketch book cover! The outfits were so creative.
January was a good writing year for me. But I could read only two books. I'm your new viewer, and getting obssesed already!

  2. Oh, which version of Emma did you watch? I've only seen the 1996 (I think) but I've heard good things about many other adaptations.
I love your drawings! Especially the one of Tip (for some reason I really love that movie. Don't ask me why because I have no idea).
This month for me was just full of Julie and the Phantoms because my sister and I watched it twice! We can't stop now.

    1. I watched the new 2020 one. You should watch it, I think you'd like it.
Thanks about the drawings. I love Home too even though it is such a weird movie.
Ha! I'm on my second rewatch myself.
