Tell Your Story

Tell Your Story

So many people have a story inside them, waiting to be let out. So many people have a desire to write a book, and yet never do. Even more write those books, but never take the steps, or aren't given the opportunity, to publish it.

If you're one of those people, I want to tell you that this is the year to do it. Tell your story. Write your novel. Publish that book (or at least work on it). To quote Dr. Seuss-

I know that it can be hard and scary. Writing a story is letting a piece of you go out into the world where everyone can stare at it and judge it. But you can't focus on that. You have to think about all the people who are going to love it, and don't know it yet.

Not that you have to share your story with the world. You could just want to write it for you, to help you or to simply get it out of your head. That's fine too. Not everything we do is made for sharing on social media. It's good to have something that you keep for yourself, and possibly those closest to you.

There's no time like the present to start working on your dreams, whether that's to write a novel, or to become a published author. Too often we push off going for them because now isn't the time or I'll be able to focus more on it next year. Then one day you wake up and realize you never did what you wanted with your life.

So seize the day and start working towards that dream. It doesn't have to be a big step, and it's actually better if it isn't. Start by doing some publishing research. Looking up a few good writing books to read. Or just sitting down for ten minutes to write.

Another common doubt is that you're not good enough, or no one will want to read what you have to say. Skill can only be built through practice. And there's always someone ready to read what you write, even if it's just your mom.

No one can tell your story but you. Each of us brings our own unique experiences and outlook to the page when we write. Don't let fear hold you back from doing what you love.

This post may sound a bit cheesy, but all I want you to take away from it is encouragement. This is going to be your year. You're going to get that novel written and take the first step towards your dreams. I believe in you and the story you have inside. So go tell it.

What's one piece of encouragement you'd like to share today? Who first encouraged you to pursue your dreams? Tell me in the comments.
