March 2021 Recap

March 2021 Recap

Somehow it's already the end of March, guys. I must admit, I wasn't looking forward to living through another March. I had so many bad and painful memories from last year. I know people say things are getting better, but since I work in retail and have to put up with masks and stupid rules all the time, it doesn't feel like it. But I'm going to keep my focus on God, and not on man. So let's recap what happened this month.

• Celebrated my sister's 21st birthday. We had a party at home, and we went to the National Harbor and had fun the next day. It was lots of fun and much better than last year.

• Went on a nice hike. The weather has been getting warmer, so we've been able to go outside and walk more.

• We're doing some rearranging in our house, and my parents gave me another small bookcase! It's helped my shelves so much. I put all my classics on it and it looks great.

• Got my new glasses! What do you think of them? It took me a little bit to get used to the look, but I think they're pretty cute.

A Winter's Promise- Christelle Dabos (4 stars)

The Desolations of Devil's Acre- Ransom Riggs (3 1/2 stars)

The Creeping Shadow- Jonathan Stroud (4 stars)

A Dress for the Wicked- Autumn Krause (4 stars)

The Rose Gate- Hanna Sandvig (4 stars)

The Inheritance Games- Jennifer Lynn Barnes (4 stars)

Only the Good Spy Young- Ally Carter (4 stars)

The Road to El Dorado (as funny as hoped, even if there was more El Dorado and less road than I thought)

Cheeta Girls (funny, but a weird ending)

Cheeta Girls 2 (much better, especially because Kenny Ortega did it)

Joseph: King of Dreams (beautiful and well done)

Cheaper by the Dozen (a family favorite)

Quantum of Solace (not as good as Casino Royale, but still interesting)

• I finished the short story I was working on. It's still not great, and I don't know if I'll actually edit it, but I had fun writing it.

• In a spur of the moment decision, I decided to drop my other writing plans and enter the Write Practice's spring writing contest. I've been struggling a lot, so I thought a challenge like this would be just the thing. I submitted the story yesterday and I think it's one of my best short stories yet. I doubt I'll win, but it was a good experience.

• The most popular post this month was, interestingly, Writing Tips from Knives Out. My personal favorite and the one I put a lot of thought into was Soul and the Creative Struggle, so give that one a read too!

• My Instagram has been stagnant in getting new followers lately, so if you'd like to follow me there, I post pretty pictures of books and we talk about everything from Marvel to writing.

• I made a reel on my art account about my March bujo theme, and it actually got a thousand views, which is crazy. If you'd like to keep up with my art more, I try to post there a few times a month. My handle is @rachel.e.art.

• I also did my first Draw This in Your Style challenge. Basically, you draw someone else's original character, but add your own flavor. I think it came out pretty cute.

• Other than that, I've been working on a big painting which took up a lot of my time, and I haven't finished it yet. Honestly, I've been procrastinating because I'm afraid of messing it up. But I will finish and post pictures when I'm done.

• I will get back into my regularly scheduled writing and hopefully send out New Magic to betas. I'll be sending out an email looking for betas, so if you haven't signed up for my newsletter and are interested in beta reading for me, subscribe to that.

• My sister and I are going to Boston and Philadelphia because we want to. I'm very excited to go my first real trip by ourselves. Due to that, I will be taking a week or two break from blogging mid-April.

• I will finish my painting. I think it's going to be super cute and I just need to commit to finishing it.

• I hope Imagine Dragons will drop their album so I can listen to obsessively. The two songs they released already are super good.

How was your March? Do you have any travel plans in the works? Tell me in the comments.
