Let's Talk About: Ashley Eckstein

Ashley Eckstein is up there on my list of people that inspiring me and I want to be like. She's awesome, smart, and a complete fangirl! That's even what inspired her to launch her business. So that's why I picked her to talk about today.

Who is she?

Ashley Eckstein was born Ashley Drane, but changed her name once she married David Eckstein (and since famous women never seem to do that anymore, I think it's awesome). She started acting in the early 2000s, gaining fame with her role as Miffy on That's So Raven. However, it was her role as Ahsoka Tano in The Clone Wars in 2008 that really made her famous.

Around that time, she started looking for Star Wars shirts to wear around and found there were none made for women. That's when she decided to start her own company, selling licensed products specifically made for women. It's name is Her Universe and is now one of the biggest geek clothing brands and affiliated with Hot Topic.

Ashley continues to create and inspire every day through Her Universe and more. She does talks, is writing a book, and hosts a geek fashion show at Comic Con every year. The winners get to design a fashion line with her. (Something I'd love to do some day.)

What makes her inspiring?

• She started her own business. How many people can they've done that, much less as successfully as she has? I love the fact that she saw a need out there, for women's geeky stuff, and she filled it. Her Universe clothes are awesome, by the way. There are tee shirts, dresses, cosplay, outerwear, and active wear. They're a bit pricey, but the quality is excellent.

• Her role as Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka is one of the most inspiring females in all of Star Wars. I haven't seen as much of The Clone Wars as I would like, but I already know Ahsoka is my favorite.

• She inspires people to do what they love. She's always trying to get people to dream big, then actually go out and get that dream.

• Finally, she's down to earth. Ashley is just as much of a geek as we are and she gets excited about all sorts of stuff. Even though she probably makes a ton of money, she acts like any other fan out there, because that's what she is at heart.

Let's talk! Have you heard of Ashley Eckstein? What are your thoughts on Ahsoka? Tell me in the comments.
